Brighter Days: On Optimism

Sometimes, there are these days and circumstances where life throws big boulders at you and punches you hard in the face - and you don't do anything but sulk and absorb all the negativity inside you. I've dealt with this during early-mid of my teenage years, I don't know how to handle stress, the negative people around me and the rejections being put up against me. I became such a pessimist that I changed as a person, the way I treated people around me and the way I view life. A few years later, I've started to grow and change for the better, I tried taking things on a positive note and thinking of alternatives in dealing with negative things because in reality, negativity will always be a part of our lives - we just have to know how not to let it consume us.

Listed below the cut are the things that I do in converting a negative into a positive:
1. THINK OF HAPPY THOUGHTS/MEMORIES - What makes you happy? who makes you happy? Think of the happiest things that happened in your life. When I'm at home feeling a bit down I go through my "happy box" containing some letters/pictures from family and friends. Happy thoughts are a great avenue for distracting yourself from stress and motivating you into conquering a bad day ahead.

2. DELETE NEGATIVE PEOPLE IN YOUR LIFE - We can't literally delete them but if you're surrounded with people who do nothing but pull you to the ground, it's time to step up and avoid such people. I've been with some people who bring nothing but negative thoughts, fights and whatnot, I tried avoiding them but when I have to work with them, I just keep myself civil. If you want to fight back, throw them with positive encouragements and do not entertain whatever they tell you.

3. KEEP CALM AND COMPOSE YOURSELF - Of course there are these circumstances where we just feel like punching someone in the throat. Nope. Don't do it, you might get sued!! Haha. Kidding aside, just keep calm and compose yourself. If you let your rage consume you, you'll end up having a bad day.

4. SMILE AND LAUGH IT OFF - You know how demons hate it when someone does a good deed? It's like smiling - it's one of the best antidotes against negativity! If you're the type of person who can just shrug a negative thought in an instant, mad props to you! I love cracking a good (..more like a corny) joke out of something negative. Plus, I believe that smiling changes your aura - it's so pleasing to look at someone smiling, it usually gives me this thought "Why, this person is having a good day! So should I!".

Millions of people have tons of problems in their lives but for some, you wouldn't know it because they have a very optimistic view in life. Let me end this post with a beautiful quote from Shannon Alder:

“When you are joyful, when you say yes to life and have fun and project positivity all around you, you become a sun in the center of every constellation, and people want to be near you.”

Be happy, it's going to change the course of your life!!

  2. I also do these things whenever I'm trying to summon optimism into my life. Sometimes it's hard but it's just so worth it having battled out some negative thoughts in your head. I hope this post helps other people, too. Very informative indeed! :)

    1. Yes, negative thoughts are so normal in a person's life but it feels rewarding to be optimistic right? I'd like to share this to people because nowadays the internet world is full of negativity, bashers and sad thoughts. It's time to shake things up.

  3. #3 is kind of hard for me sometimes. In my mind, I have punched them already and finished them off with a Kamehameha wave. Heh! :D

    1. Haha, I remember this scene from Mean Girls where Cady imagined attacking Regina George like a ruthless lion! :)) It's better to keep it in your head than do it in real life. :))
