The Perfect Fit

"Sometimes things aren't really meant for us" this cliche statement may sound so cheesy but even in shopping this is awfully true. Admit it, there are times when you fit a fabulous clothing, but no matter what size its is - it just doesn't look right, in short UNFLATTERING. Frustrating right? Thank God, the Fashion Police isn't everywhere! I too am a victim of impulsively buying unflattering clothes - it didn't make me feel good at all.

How do we really find the "perfect fit" for us? I'd like to share to you the most basic things that I've learned in buying the right clothes for you.
(**these are just based on personal opinion and tips from different sources that worked for me)

1. KNOW YOUR BODY TYPE - are four different body types (round, rectangle, pear and hourglass) and this is the first thing that you have to know before purchasing clothes. Like me, I have an hourglass figure, personally I avoid buying body-con clothes because it accentuates my hips leading us to..

2. FIND CLOTHES THAT WILL EMPHASIZE YOUR BEST FEATURES AND CONCEAL PARTS YOU'RE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH - focusing on your best features and showing it/them off will change the way a piece looks on you.  If you don't feel confident enough with some parts of your body, there's nothing wrong in concealing it - the most important thing is that you feel comfortable with what you're wearing and with how you look. For example you want to flaunt your collarbone and shoulders but you want to hide your hips, try wearing an off-shoulder blouse/dress with a flowy skirt or wide-legged pants.

3. BE CAUTIOUS WITH PRINTS -  wearing, mixing and matching prints for me is one of my toughest struggles. Let's go to the most basic print that we all know - wearing stripes. Wearing vertical stripes will elongate your height and make you look slimmer, while horizontal stripes will broaden your body and will make you appear shorter. As for other types of print, be wary of mixing and matching them – as an avid fashion magazine reader/collector, I’ve read that you should mix prints that will complement each other and at the same time your body too. You also have to learn how to balance prints and colors: if you have loud prints try toning it down by partnering it with something plain and vice versa.

4. Above all else, just be CONFIDENT – if you’re a brave soul and you hate rules, confidence is always the key to wearing clothes. Yes, I’ve seen some people who are wearing something that aren’t complementing them but because of their confidence they can rock that look. Even if you’re wearing something flattering but you’re feeling shy and/or uncomfortable with it, it gives you minus points. Stand tall, and be proud.

P.S.: DON’T WEAR ANYTHING FAKE (This isn’t really related to finding the perfect fit but I have to tell you this) – I grew up in a country full of tiangges/ukay-ukays (thrift shops) and some of the things that you’ll see there are imitations of designer brands and high-end products. Before fake Havaianas flip-flops, Louis Vuitton and Hermes hand bags were a thing here, you’ll get them for 50-100 and 700-2,000 pesos in thrift stores respectively. Now Commes des Garcones “PLAY” shirts/logos are a trend in the stores, and I see so many people wearing it in different colors.
It’s a bit sad that people settle for fake products, no offense meant but if you can’t afford designer brands there are always these amazing and affordable local brands that you can purchase at the malls! Buying local is so much better than buying fake because you know that the quality is way better. Brands will not indicate who you are as a person!!

Have a great week lovely people, my apologies for not posting last week. Exam week is coming and I’m busy with filmmaking pre-production! After this week, I promise to post regularly! xx

  1. Tip number 3 is really difficult for me to follow, but my most favorite tip is number 4! :)

    1. Hi! Yes, all of the 3 "rules" wouldn't really work if you're not proud of how you look!! Even in real life, confidence shows the best out of you. :)

  2. I totally understand your take on fake products but for me, there are items that I should definitely splurge on, but there are also items that I'd settle for the alternatives (like no way I'm gonna spend $$$ for a Commes des Garcones cap). But that's just what I think.

    1. It's better to splurge than buy clothes that are fake for the sake of the brand, but it's of low quality right? I guess it's better to buy alternatives for small pieces like accessories. :)

  3. Awesome tips! Totally get you on the fake products, but I would have to agree with Kisty -- there are just some items that are not worth it, and an alternative would be something more practical. Hehe!

  4. I dont care much for fashion but I usually wear varying degrees of black. Lol hope that makes sense. And on a daily basis, something comfortable. I cant have something flattering but not extremely uncomfortable :D

    1. Black is one of the best colors to wear to be honest - you can't go wrong with black because you can pair it up with any color and print. ;)
